People of the haor areas in Netrakona district have been experiencing an extra-ordinary feelings of happiness since after hearing the news that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will come to the Haor areas on May 18 to see for herself the extent of damage to crops, properties and biodiversity caused by the flash flood there.
The flood-hit haor people have now started dreaming to begin a journey for a new life with the help of the Government after forgetting the sorrowful memories of the past.
Meanwhile, at the directives of the prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the government has already started massive relief operation and distribution of rice under vulnerable Group Development (VGD) and selling of rice at fair prices under open ,market sale (OMS) programs in the flood-hit Haor areas of the country.
Talking to The New Nation correspondent, an octogenarian farmer of the village Shampur under Mohanganj upazila of Netrakona district Abdul Latif said that normalcy is returning day by day in the Haor areas as the government has quickly stood beside the Haor people during their crisis hours with massive post flood relief and rehabilitation programs.
“Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the Haor areas of the district will be inspired the flood-affected Haor people to face the situation with courage and work properly to overcome the losses caused by the calamity”, he said.
Deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Musfiqur Rahman said that a sprightly mood has generated among the Haor people as the prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the executive head of the government, is coming there on May 18 to inquire their condition and well-beings and help them during their crisis hours for mitigating their sufferings.
Many people of Khaliajury upazila in the district including the chairman of the Khaliajury Upazila Parishad Shamsuzzaman Talukder , who were interviewed by this correspondent said that the Haor people have started seeing a ray of hope deleting their painful memories of the past since after hearing the news about the visit of prime minister Sheikh Hasina to the Haor areas.
During her visit, the Haor people will get the opportunity to air their grievances directly to the prime minister, the UZ chairman added.
