Chittagong Bureau :City watchdog Chittagong Development Authority ( CDA) is going to implement three new mega projects and two projects are set for inauguration at a cost of Tk.5000 crores . The city watchdog has taken these projects during the tenure of ruling party for convenient movement of transports, pedestrians and benefits of the city dwellers as well as the people of the Chittagong North and south district. Out of the five projects, Prime Minister sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate two projects. Oxygen-Kuwaish Road (now named Bangabandhu Avenue) and unveiling the movement in Kadamtali Flyover. About Tk.110 crores were spent for these two above projects.Colourful mural (sculpture) of Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman erected at intersection of Oxgen Crossing and Kuwaish Crossing will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister during her visit in the port city on Saturday. The other three mega projects i.e. Chittagong city outer Ring Road, Elevated Express Way from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat International Airport and Construction of Link Road from Dhaka Trunk road connecting from Patenga to Fouzderhat and the estimated cost of these project earmarked for Tk.1700 cr, 2957 cr and 172 cr respectively. Prime Minister will lay foundations of these three mega projects during her visit in Chittagong tomorrow (Saturday). This was disclosed by the CDA Chairman, Abdus Salam at a press briefing arranged in a local posh hotel yesterday morning. Among others, CDA Board member Jasimuddin chowdhury,Tipu sultan, Hasan Murad Biplab, CDA secretary Tahera Ferdous and Deputy Secretary Amal Guha were present in the press briefing. CDA chairman in his briefing said since his joining in 2009, the extravaganza of development work began in Chittagong with the blessings of the Prime Minister. He also emphasized the future city planning keeping in mind for next 100 years. He also said in next 10 years, about one lakh crores of taka will be spent for development work in the port city. He further mentioned the ongoing process of Karnaphuli tunnel , deep sea port in Chittagong and special economic zones at Mirsarai and Anowara. He also disclosed that Chittagong Port Authority also agreed to provide funds for Elevated Expressway as loan which will be repaid from toll collections of the expressway to the lender. He also congratulated the local bodies viz. city corporation, city police, district administration, Chittagong port authority, rail authority, Karnaphuli gas co, RHD and PBB for extending cooperation to the CDA . He also expressed grateful to the services of the journalists during his tenure as chairman.
