Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate commissioning of 9 crore liters capacity Sheikh Russel Water Treatment Plant through vide conference today (Sunday).
The SRWTP is situated at Madunaghat beside Halda River . The construction works of the SRWTP begins in 2015 with the financial assistance of World Bank, GOB and CWASA jointly at a cost of Tk.1800 crores . After commissioning of the water plant, the water crisis in the city will be solved, concerned authority observed.
Water will be treated in the plant in 6 steps after lifting water from Halda River. Managing Director of CWASA Engr. AKM Fazlullah told the media persons that the total demand of the city is 42 crore liters daily and now we are able to supply 36 crores. Total water supply generating 14 crores from Sheikh Hasina Treatment Plan, 9 crores from Mohra Plant,9 crores from SRWP and 4 crores from deep tube wells .
He further said about 95 percent city dwellers are getting water and some hindrances in the old supply line . After replacing these old supply line, the city dwellers will get abundant water with full pressure , he told. He also mentioned that defective supply lines are being replacing and hoped that the city dwellers will not face any water crisis after 2021.
