Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken timely steps to maintain the continuity of development even in the global recession of COVID-19 and to keep the daily life of the people of the country normal.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken time- befitting steps to maintain the continuity of development in Bangladesh and to keep the daily life of the people of all walks of life normal despite the global recession, caused by Covid-19 ,” she said.
She made the remarks on Thursday while outgoing Qatar ambassador to Bangladesh Ahmed Mohammed Nasser Al-Dehaimi paid a courtesy call on her at the Parliament House .
During the meeting, they discussed on economic development and expansion of trade and commerce, COVID-19 issues and its vaccine activities and significant progress of Bangladesh in the field of information technology, a press release said.
The Speaker said that the budget session is being held in the parliament amidst global Covid-19 pandemic.
The budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been passed in the parliament to keep the life of the people of the country normal, she added.
The outgoing Qatar ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Nasser Al-Dehaimi hoped that cooperation between the two countries on issues of mutual interest would continue in the days to come .
The speaker expressed her intention to visit Qatar if the situation will be convenient when the ambassador invited the Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad to visit Qatar .
Through the Ambassador, the speaker also invited her counterpart of Qatar to visit Bangladesh in future.
Senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present at the time.
