Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday sought more Spanish investment in Bangladesh, particularly in infrastructure, power and energy, telecommunication, ICT and shipbuilding sectors, for mutual benefits of the two countries.
The Prime Minister came up with the request when Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Luis Tejada Chacon paid a farewell call on her at her office this morning.
After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters.
Sheikh Hasina expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Spain and said the relations were further strengthened during the four-year tenure of the ambassador.
The Prime Minister praised the Spanish envoy for successful completion of his assignment in Bangladesh and extended her greetings to the Spanish prime minister through the ambassador.
Sheikh Hasina highlighted Bangladesh’s tremendous successes in different fields including agriculture, education, health, ICT, power and energy and women development.
She also put emphasis on exchanging high-level visits between the two countries to further consolidate and deepen the bilateral ties.
The outgoing Spanish ambassador thanked the Prime Minister for extending cooperation to discharge his duty during his four-year stay in Bangladesh. “I spent a good time in Bangladesh during my tenure,” he remarked.
The ambassador also conveyed Spanish Prime Minister’s greetings to Sheikh Hasina.
Tejada Chacon highly appreciated Bangladesh’s stunning success in different fields under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The progress Bangladesh achieved in different sectors, especially steady GDP growth, is commendable,” he said.
He also lauded the introduction of quick rental power plants to solve electricity crisis in Bangladesh, saying that these power plants have ensured steadiness of the GDP growth.
The Spanish envoy noted that more Spanish companies are interested to invest in infrastructure, power, energy and others sectors in Bangladesh. Besides, he said, the existing Spanish firms would increase their investment in Bangladesh.
Tejada Chacon also laid stress on strengthening cultural ties between the two countries apart from trade and commerce relations.
