UNB, Dhaka :Ruling out the possibility of engaging in dialogue with BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday warned of dire consequences if the BNP-Jamaat alliance unleashes destructive acts again in the name of movement.”If they (BNP-Jamaat) dare to touch the bodies of the country’s people or cause any damage, they’ll see the dire consequences,” she said. The Prime Minister was responding to a volley of questions from reporters during her press conference on the outcome of the 10th ASEM Summit at her official residence Ganobhaban in the afternoon.Over the repeated threats by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to wage a decisive movement, Hasina said she did the same thing several times before the January-5 polls.”Killing 2-4 people is not a movement. Now an elected government is in power and they need to understand that. An interim government was in place before the January-5 polls …now I can assure the people of the country that they won’t be able to unleash such destructive acts,” she added. The Prime Minister also called upon people to stay alert and resist from their respective positions if such terrorist and militant acts are repeated. “And the government will always remain beside you.” Asked whether Sunday’s hartal was called to avert Khaleda Zia’s appearing in court in connection with a graft case, Hasina said Khaleda had embezzled the fund of orphanage and resorted to corruption and she knows it very well that it is a punishable offence.”This is why hartals are being called so that Khaleda needs not to appear before the court,” the Prime Minister added. She urged the BNP chairperson to appear before the court and prove that she did not indulge in corruption. “She (Khaleda) should come out of her escapism.”Recalling that Ziaur Rahman had patronised and rehabilitated the killers of Bangabandhu while his son Tarique staged the August 21 grenade attack killing many AL leaders and workers, including Ivy Rahman, Hasina said why there are frequent pleas to sit with them for talks.
