UNB, Sangsad :Dispelling the widespread speculations that the government might go for an alternative way to overcome thecurrent crisis in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of declaring a state of emergency.”Why is (the state of) emergency needed? No one could have created a situation here which demands the declaration of emergency,” she said. The Prime Minister was responding to a supplementary question from opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury during PM’s question-answer session in Parliament. She said law enforcement agencies are working to contain the present destructive activities of the BNP-Jamaat alliance. “People are with us…we’ll surely be able to overcome the situation. Anarchists have no public support…they’re terrorists.”Pointing at the 2007 unconstitutional situation when a state of emergency had been declared, Hasina said the government will not put the country in that situation again.”People are also not looking for that (emergency) , if anyone wants to do that people will come up to resist…there’s no doubt about it. At least, we won’t do that as long as the blood will run through our veins,” she told the House amid thumping of desks by MPs both from the treasury and opposition benches.Hasina went on to add: “Last time the emergency had been proclaimed by then President Iajuddin Admed and was the President-cum-chief of the caretaker government.””This time if the President wants to declare emergency, then the Prime Minister has to give consent in written and only then the President can declare the emergency,” she narrated.About the present situation, Hasina said the government can restore peace as it is capable of controlling the situation. “We’ve taken measurers to save the lives and property of people.”Opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury in his questioned said TV talk shows need to be stopped as participants make provocative comments. In this connection, the Prime Minister said some people are there who always want to create an undemocratic situation in the country to make their personal gains. “But, they won’t get the benefit they’re dreaming of.”About banning or stopping the talk shows, Hasina said she has nothing to do in this regard. “I have nothing to say about it,” she said.
