Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a regular taxpayer received the income tax card from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday.
Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman handed over the income tax card to the Prime Minister at the very outset of the day’s regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Briefing reporters after the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set up a bright example through paying income tax regularly since the 1982-82 tax year.
“For this, the NBR has thanked the Prime Minister through a recognition memento and handed over her the income tax card,” she said.
The NBR has taken various innovative initiatives as part of its continuous efforts to establish a revenue-friendly culture across the country.
In the just-concluded Income Tax Fair held from November 1-7, the NBR for the first time distributed Income Tax Cards among the taxpayers in Dhaka and Chittagong which created huge enthusiasm among the taxpayers.
Several Ministers, State Ministers, Members of Parliament, Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary, Chief Coordinator on SDGs, Senior Secretaries, Secretaries and other high officials visited this year’s fair and received their Income Tax cards.
