BSS, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s scheduled public meeting in Sylhet has been postponed as the Election Commission (EC) yesterday announced the schedule for district council polls.
“Honourable Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina has postponed Nov 23 meeting at
Sylhet Alia Madrasah ground by showing honour to the Election Commission,” AL Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told BSS yesterday. He said the public meeting was supposed to be held at Sylhet Alia Madrasah ground on November 23 under the auspices of Sylhet District and City Units of Awami League.
But the EC yesterday declared the schedule for the district council polls to be held on December 28, and as per the election code of conduct, there is no permission for holding a meeting of any political party during the period. Biplab said though the public meeting won’t be held, the prime minister’s other programmes in Sylhet would remain as usual.
Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to join a function at Sylhet Cantonment on Nov 23 and offer ziarat of the mazars of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Shah Paran (RA).
