UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Monday accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of trying to mislead people by distorting its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s remarks bout the next national election. “It’s a regrettable matter that our chairperson’s comments have been distorted. What she (Khaleda) has said at the concluding session of our council that we want the next election to be held under a non-party government. It means it’s our desire that there will be a
neutral administration during the election,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He further said, “We hope the current Prime Minister will not be there in the polls-time impartial government. But she’ll surely participate in the election to be held with the participation of all parties. It was the meaning
of her (Khaleda’s) statement. But, her remarks have been distorted to confuse people.” Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, the BNP leader also urged the ruling party to refrain from carrying out a false campaign distorting Khaleda’s remarks.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alleged that BNP chief Khaleda Zia with her vow to hold election without Hasina has
demonstrated that she is conspiring again to kill her through an attack like the August 21 one. “What Khaleda Zia is trying to say through holding election without Sheikh Hasina? It’s my question. Is she conspiring again to kill me through grenade attack or any other means like August 21,” she said at the AL Central Working Committee meeting held at her official residence Ganobhaban. Protesting the Prime Minister’s comment, Fakhrul said, “We hoped the ruling party and its president would congratulate us for successfully holding the council to strengthen democracy. But, unfortunately we’ve observed that they’re making evil efforts to make people confused by twisting our madam’s comment.”
Mentioning that the BNP chairperson at the party’s sixth council called for restoration of a healthy politics and democracy in the country through a political understanding, he said Awami League is trying to create a controversy over their council instead of responding to the call. Fakhrul also said the ruling party leaders and ministers regularly make derogatory comments against Khaleda that only increases vengeance and destroys political environment. “We hope Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, its leaders and ministers will accept our chairperson’s call for coming out of the politics of vengeance, and will take steps for resolving the political crisis through discussions.” He said the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) withdrew its red alert notice issued on BNP senior vice chairman Tarique earlier. “The Interpol had issued the notice following a complaint of the government. Later, it looked into the allegation and found it baseless, and withdrew the alert. We hope there’ll remain no controversy over it,” Fakhrul added. On April 14, 2015, the Interpol issued a red alert notice on Tarique.
