The Power and Energy Week 2018 will kick off today across the country with a slogan “Anirban Agami” (Indomitable Future).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the Power and Energy Week 2018 at a function at International Convention City, Bashundhara in the city.
On the occasion the Power and
Energy Ministry organised the three-day exhibition as part of the Power and Energy Week observance from September 6 to 8 across the country. This year’s event was named as ‘Anirban Agami’.
A number of foreign guests including Nepalese energy, water resources and irrigation minister are participating in the fair.
Addressing a press briefing at Biduyt Bhaban on the occasion, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid said the government has increased the country’s power generation capacity to 20,000 MW in last 10 years from 4942 MW in 2009.
“One of the main objectives of this year’s Power and Energy Week is to focus the success and make it memorable” he said adding that Power and Energy Ministry has aligned its plan with Prime Ministry’s Vision 2041 to generate 60,000 MW by then.
Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said this year’s event will provide a unique opportunity to get new innovative ideas to strengthen the country’s power and energy sector as many youths from different universities submitted their innovations.
It was informed that an elaborate programme was chalked out to observe the week. The 3-day power and energy fair will be held at the same venue of the Bhashundhara International Convention city where more than 100 public and private entities will showcase their products and services.
Four seminars will be held on different topics in three days to make interactions among the stakeholders in the sector.
In the inaugural function, officials of different public entities will be awarded for their best performances while journalists will also be given award for their best reporting.
The government has been observing such power and energy week in every September for the last few years as part of its development campaign.
Alongside the central event in Dhaka this year, different entities in power and energy sector will organise different programmes to expose the government’s success in the sector.
Already, three best speakers on power and energy developments were selected from 5000 school and college students across the country through competition. The three students will be awarded in the function.
Power Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and Energy Secretary Abu Hena Rahmatul Munim also spoke at the press briefing.
