UNB, Dhaka :Accusing the government of resorting to enforced disappearance and repressive acts to perpetuate its illegal rule, BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said the current ‘illegal’ Prime Minister must be made accountable for every extrajudicial killing and incident of enforced disappearance in the future.”We’re holding the current illegal government responsible for committing crimes against humanity by resorting to enforced disappearances. Their men have forcefully and unlawfully picked up our boys and men,” he said.Fakhrul continued: “The current illegal Prime Minister has to be accountable to people for every killing and enforced disappearance.”Fakhrul, the BNP acting secretary general, was addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Singapore unit of the party in memory of those killed and made disappeared before the January-5 polls. He renewed the party’s allegation that the government during their movement before the January-5 election unlawfully killed 310 opposition leaders and activists and made 65 others disappeared. “The seven-murder incident in Narayanganj has proved the government has committed these killings and enforced disappearances using members of Rab and other law enforcement agencies.”The BNP leader said they will trace those remained missing and bring those involved in the incidents if their party returns to power. He alleged that the government has imposed a monstrous rule on people by shutting all the ways and windows of democracy only to hang onto power.”The government is illegally holding office using the state machinery. The audacious remarks of the ruling party ministers and MPs suggest that they’ve become the kings of the country and others become their docile, the BNP leader observed. He also alleged that no one is now in peace in the country as the government has created a suffocating situation by snatching their all rights.Fakhrul called upon all, including the youth, to involve in their oust-government movement to save the country and its people from misrule. He hoped that their movement will surely be successful. “We must turn victorious this time.”Fifteen families of the victims of enforced disappearances were given financial assistance at the programme.
