Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed profound shock at the death of noted politician and social worker Golam Akbar Chowdhury.
Golam Akbar Chowdhury, husband of Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) yesterday.
Golam Akbar Chowdhury was very close to Bangabandhu, the Prime Minister said in a condolence message adding that Sarbadaliya Chhatra Sangram Parishad (all party student movement council) was formed in Chittagong for Language Movement with Golam Akbar in the chair. He also served as a honourary member in the planning cell of the Mujibnagar Government during the War of Liberation, she said.
“Golam Akbar had played a courageous role as a true admirer and friend of Awami League after the assassination of the Father of the Nation in 1975, ” Sheikh Hasina said.
The Prime Minister also recalled his active role when she retuned home after being elected president of Awami League. “Bangladesh has lost a patriotic figure at his death and personally I have lost a well-wisher,” she added.
The Prime Minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to bereaved family members.
