Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the investors from Czech Republic could come and invest in the Special Economic Zones of Bangladesh, including joint venture projects, alongside building infrastructures there.
The Prime Minister said this when non-resident Ambassador of Czech Republic Miloslav Stasek made a courtesy call on her at her office.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister also underscored the need for enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.
Sheikh Hasina emphasized the need for holding regular political consultations between Foreign Ministries of the two friendly countries as well as enhancing the mutual cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, exchanges in cultural and educational arena.
She also suggested that Czech Republic could take more jute and jute-made goods, ceramic and leather goods from Bangladesh to meet their demand.
The Prime Minister recalled with deep appreciation the support extended by the former Czechoslovakia for reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the war ravaged Bangladesh immediately after the war of independence in 1971.
She also mentioned the country’s bid for boosting regional connectivity through connecting with the BCIM Economic Corridor.
In response, the Czech ambassador said work is on to finalise two major agreements with Bangladesh in economic cooperation and avoidance of double taxation.
Mentioning that Czech has expertise in transport sector especially in railway and manufacturing truck, Miloslav also assured the Prime Minister of enhanced economic cooperation in the coming days.
He said the Czech Republic is strong in building thermal power plants and renewable energy.
Lauding Sheikh Hasina’s able leadership, the Czech ambassador said after a turbulent time, Bangladesh is heading towards progress under her leadership. “You’re managing very well,” he added.
The Czech envoy also noted that political stability is a key factor for economic development.
PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Honorary Consul General of Czech Republic in Bangladesh ASM Mohiuddin Monem were, among others, present.
