Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated “Sonar Tari” and “Awchin Pakhi”, the fifth and sixth brand new Dreamliner Boeing 787-9 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The premier commissioned the two state-of-the-art aircrafts of the national flag carrier by cutting ribbons at the VVIP Tarmac of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
After the inauguration, Sheikh Hasina boarded and inspected inside the aircrafts and talked to the pilots and other crew members. A munajat was offered on the occasion, seeking continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
‘Achin Pakhi’ and ‘Sonar Tori’ landed at HSIA on December 24 and December 21 respectively from Seattle, the USA.
With the two Dreamliners, the number of such most modern aircraft of the national flag carrier has increased to six and the Biman’s total aircraft fleet number to 18.
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has total 298 seats including 30 business classes, 21 premium economy classes and 247 economy classes.
In September last, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina disclosed her plan of purchasing two more Boeing 787 aircraft while inducting Biman’s fourth Dreamliner named “Rajhangsa” in the capital.
Biman’s first Dreamliner named as ‘Akash Beena’, arrived here in August last year while the second one known as ‘Hangsabalaka’ landed in December last.
The third Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner named as ‘Gaangchil’ arrived here in July this year and the fourth one ‘Rajhangsa’ in September.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with Boeing to purchase 10 new aircrafts. As per the deal, Boeing has already delivered all the aircraft- four 777-300ER’s, two 737-800’s and four Dreamliners- to Biman.
