Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday handed over cheques among injured persons and family members of the persons died in the atrocities of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir at Indurkani of Pirojpur district in 2014 and 2015.
The prime minister handed over the cheques as financial assistance to 24 persons at a function at Prime Minister Office (PMO), PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said.
The prime minister remembered the atrocities of the BNP-Jamaat on innocent people during the period from 2013 to 2015 in the name of movement saying their families suffered immense torture and out of them many people died and became crippled for the whole life.
Later, the prime minister received cheques of donation from Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) to her relief and welfare fund.
The banks have donated Taka 85 crore to the fund, the press secretary said.
The prime minister extended her sincere thanks to the bankers for coming forward with financial support to the people during any disaster. Their amount is being used for the welfare of the people, she said.
Sheikh Hasina said her government is taking steps for new crops immediately after recession of flood water. Flash flood and deluge following heavy rainfall and on rush of upstream water that caused huge damage to the crops, she said.
The government has also taken measures to check outbreak of any disease following flood, she said, adding that the Prime Minister Office, civil and military administration and party leaders and workers are working wholeheartedly together to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
Sheikh Hasina said the government would redistribute textbooks among students in the flood-affected areas.
Repairing work of the roads and highways would start soon after recession of flood water, she added. Sheikh Hasina said her government is making constant efforts to stand beside people of every profession, including poets, artists, litterateur with financial support during their needs.
Advisor of Awami League president on private sector affairs Salman F Rahman and Chairman of BAB Nazrul Islam Majumder, among others, were present.
