Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to the Netherlands on Tuesday on a four-day official visit to the European
country.
The Prime Minister will lead a 25-member delegation, including state minister for water resources, during her visit to the Netherlands. A 19-member business delegation will also accompany the premier during the tour from November 3.
This will be her first official bilateral tour to the Europe after the formation of government in January, 2014, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Sunday.
Addressing a press briefing at the Foreign Ministry ahead of the forthcoming visit, the Foreign Minister said the Prime Minister is expected to sit in a bilateral meeting with her Netherlands’ counterpart Mark Rutte at the latter’s official residence which will be followed by dinner.
The minister said she will also hold talks with Netherlands’ Queen Maxima Cerruti at the Royal Palace.
Sheikh Hasina will deliver a lecture at a seminar to be attended by the country’s top business leaders.
Three memorandums of understanding and an agreement are likely to be signed during the visit, AH Mahmood Ali noted.
The MoUs are on political consultations between the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Netherlands and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Bangladesh, Letter of Intent between the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, and between BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology and Universiteit Nyenrode BV, while the agreement will be signed between Saxion University of Applied Sciences, School of Creative Technology and BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.
Mahmood Ali also said Queen Maxima Cerruti is likely to visit Bangladesh in mid-November as UN Secretary General’s adviser.
Addressing the briefing, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque said as the Netherlands also expressed its interest in constructing deep seaport in Bangladesh, the issue may be discussed during the visit.
He said, the Prime Minister is expected to discuss the arrangement of an international conference on fair prices of readymade garments in Bangladesh.
About the Delta Plan-2100, a joint venture of Bangladesh and the Netherlands, the Foreign Secretary said under the mega plan now 19 studies are being conducted on various aspects, including assessment framework, development of strategies and financing.
He said 80-90 percent work of the studies have already been completed. On completion of the studies, discussion will be held to implement the plan, he added.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam also spoke on the occasion.
