Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday provided cheques of financial assistance to ailing film actresses Amirunnesa Khanam, popularly known as Rani Sarker, and Parveen Sultana Diti.
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Sheikh Hasina handed over the cheques at her official residence Ganobhaban in the evening.
He said the Prime Minister handed over a Tk five lakh cheque to legendary actress Rani Sarker.
Knowing about Rani Sarker’s inhuman living condition, she also provided Tk 50,000 in cash as well as two bags of rice and some fish to the ailing actress Rani Sarker to meet her immediate needs.
Rani Sarker broke into tears when she saw Sheikh Hasina while the Prime Minister hugged the ailing actress and consoled her. Earlier in November 2014, the Prime Minister had also given Tk 20 lakh as financial assistance to Rani Sarker.
Sheikh Hasina also handed over a cheque of Tk 10 lakh as financial assistance to Lamia Chowdhury and Shafayat Chowdhury-daughter and son of ailing actress Diti-to meet the treatment expenses of their mother.
The Prime Minister enquired about the wellbeing and overall health condition of Diti from her son and daughter.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present on the occasion.
Diti has been undergoing treatment at a city hospital after her return from the Madras Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology-MIOT in Chennai, India where she had been treated twice for a brain tumour.
