Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday stressed the need for further strengthening of cooperation on various fields between Bangladesh and India for their mutual benefits.
The Prime Minister came up with the view when visiting Indian Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi met her at her official residence Ganobhaban. After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
He said, Sheikh Hasina expressed satisfaction at the success of the Home Secretary-level talks held in Dhaka on Tuesday between the two sides. The Indian Home Secretary said he had fruitful discussions with his Bangladesh counterpart earlier in the day as the two sides signed an agreed minutes after the meeting.
Besides, the two secretaries signed a Standard Operative Procedure (SOP) on coastal shipping, Mehrishi said.
About implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement, the Indian Home Secretary said the first set of people living in the former enclaves would go to India on Wednesday.
The Indian Home Secretary said he visited the historic Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 in the capital and noted that it is highly impressive as it represents history of the Bangalee Nation.
In reply, Sheikh Hasina said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman used to address the people from this historic house.
She regretted that military dictator Ziaur Rahman had made an ill-effort to erase the memories of this house by changing numbers of roads and houses in this area but the people did not accept that.
At the meeting, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran informed Sheikh Hasina that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a good meeting with her niece-a member of the British Parliament-
Tulip Siddiqui.
He also apprised the Prime Minister about the meeting held in New Delhi recently between the Water Resources Ministers of Bangladesh and India.
