Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday stressed the need for further strengthening cooperation between
Bangladesh and Bhutan saying the scope has widened following the BBIN initiative undertaken by the Bangladesh Bhutan India and Nepal.
The Prime Minister came up with the remarks when visiting President of
the Youth Development Fund of Bhutan Queen Mother Tshering Pem Wangchuck met her at Ganobhaban in the evening.
After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed journalists.
Expressing happiness over the increase of engagements between the two countries, Sheikh Hasina said it has expanded now in more areas, including people-to-people contact.
The Prime Minister said Bhutan has a special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh as it was the first country to recognise Independent Bangladesh in 1971.
During the meeting, the Bhutanese Queen Mother said she is really impressed seeing the tremendous achievement in the socioeconomic fields of Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic leadership.
Tshering Pem Wangchuk mentioned that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan are very strong, and hoped that the ties would be strengthened further in the days to come.
The Queen Mother also recalled the visits of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bhutan.
At the meeting, Hasina presented Tshering Pem Wangchuk a photo album containing photos of the visit of the Bhutanees fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuk in 1974.
Sheikh Hasina said she was very happy for the birth of Prince Jyalsey.
