UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday urged people to give their verdict in favour of Awami League in the coming elections to maintain the pace of development defying all conspiracies and evil designs.
“Bangladesh is now an emerging sun in the world community, Bangladesh is moving ahead and it’ll continue its forward march. Still, I know, there’re so many conspiracies and evil designs against the country…there’re plenty of anti-liberation forces, their collaborators and adulators… they’ll continue their conspiracies,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League President, said this while laying the foundation stone of the central office of the party at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, marking its 68th founding anniversary.
She said, the government wants to make the country a developed and prosperous one. “This will be done by Awami League, only Awami League can make it and change the fate of people,” she said adding that Bangladesh and Awami League is complementary to each other.
During Awami League rule, Hasina said, the country got recognition across the globe as a role model of development. “This has to be continued, to keep up the pace of development, this Awami League has to form the government again for serving people.” She urged people to compare the tenures of Awami League with others. “Please give Awami League the scope again to serve you… let Awami League serve you again.”
The Prime Minister directed the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League to build themselves with the ideals of Bangabandhu and stand beside people to ensure their welfare. Hasina said, when Awami League comes to power, it makes arrangements of food, shelter, education and healthcare services for people, and work to improve the socioeconomic condition of the rural people alongside removing disparity between the rich and the poor.
She said, Bangabandhu struggled throughout his life to ensure overall development of people and fulfill their basic rights, and he gave us an independent country and a separate identity in the global community.
Terming the 1996-2001 term of her government as golden era of Bangladesh, she said people for the first time had understood that a government is for serving them during his rule.
During 2009-2017, Hasina recalled, there had been marked development in all sectors, including economic, social and cultural fields.
She reiterated her commitment of turning Bangladesh into a middle-income digital nation by 2021 and a front ranking developed one in South Asia by 2041.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also spoke on the occasion.
Party senior leaders, including Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Awami League Presidium Members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Adv Sahara Khatun, joint secretaries Dr Dipu Moni and Jahnagir Kabir Nanak were present.
The 10-storey building will have offices of the party and its associate bodies as well as conference hall, seminar room, digital library, VIP lounge, canteen, journalist lounge and a dormitory. Separate rooms will be there for the president and the general secretary of the party, while the entire building will have Wi-Fi facilities.
