Lions Clubs International on Wednesday decorated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the ‘Medal of Distinction’ in recognition to her services for the needy and distressed, particularly forcibly displaced Rohingya people.
“Visiting Lions Clubs International President Dr Naresh Agarwal decorated the Prime Minister with the medal when he paid a courtesy call on her at the PM’s official Ganabhaban residence here,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters.
The Loins Clubs International president highly praised the Prime Minister for her humanitarian quality, particularly for giving shelter to over one million Rohingya people in Bangladesh.
“The international community has already recognised you as the title of ‘Mother of Humanity’ for this quality,” he told Sheikh Hasina.
In reply, the Prime Minister said it is her responsibility to serve the distressed humanity. “You (the Lions) have been working to serve the common people, like that we the politicians are also working for ensuring their basic needs including food, clothes and shelter,” she said.
Dr Agarwal said his organisation will continue to extend support for the distressed humanity in Bangladesh.
Appreciating Bangladesh’s stunning development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Lions Clubs International president said Bangladesh is now highly respected internationally for the development.
