Bangladesh Bar Council on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her stance over the ongoing Rohingya crisis, expressing firm support to the government in its diplomatic efforts to resolve the problem.
“Myanmar military is continuously violating human rights in its Rakhine state as it is indiscriminately killing the minority Rohingyas, torching their houses and all the belongings and repressing them. Around 1.80 lakh Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh in the last couple of days, putting a big burden on our country,” said a press release signed by bar council secretary Md Afzal-Ur-Rahman.
Terming the genocide being carried out by Myanmar army in Rakhine as unprecedented, the Bar Council urged the international community to take quick and appropriate steps to stop the barbaric crimes.
“Resolving the problem by force is not possible here and the Myanmar government should realize it. They have to solve this (problem) politically. The military operation against the Rohingyas is nothing but a racially and communally motivated crime,” the release said.
