UNB, Dhaka :
Continuing her tirades against BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the politics of this party is
the politics of destruction, and whenever it came to power it pushed the country backward.
“…they (BNP) only know the politics of destruction, they don’t know how to develop a country …this is the fact,” she said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the 43rd founding anniversary of Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL), one of the associate bodies of the ruling Awami League (AL), at Bangladesh Krishibid Institution auditorium.
She said, whenever BNP comes to power it brings misfortune for the country and its people. “Whenever BNP comes to power it brings embarrassment for the country as it always wants to make the Bengali nation ‘the nation of beggars’.
Listing the unfortunate incidents that took place during the BNP’s rule including the killing of farmers and workers, Hasina said, “In recent times, what did we see? BNP created obstacles to the common people, including workers, farmers and ultra poor. They burned these people alive through arson attacks across the country.”
She also said Khaleda Zia enforced hartals during the SSC examinations alongside its blockade programme.
The Prime Minister alleged that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia never wanted the Independence of the country. “The country’s
Independence is not desirable for her.”
Talking about Khaleda Zia’s 92 days of stay in her Gulshan office which is close to her residence, the Awami League chief said she is still unable to solve the mystery behind her ‘stay in her office’.
Hasina mentioned that Khaleda Zia while staying in her office had firmly said she would not return to her home until the Awami League government was ousted. “Now I would like to ask her (Khaleda) didn’t you return to your home? Yes you’ve returned. And the Awami League government is also in power,” she said.
During her 92-day stay in the office, the Prime Minister said, Khaleda Zia burned 150 innocent people to death while around 500 people are passing their miserable days with their burn injuries.
“The same thing she (Khaleda) did back in 2013,” Hasina said adding saying that one day Khaleda has to answer to the nation for all this.
Talking about Khaleda Zia’s election campaign for Tabith Awal Mintoo, who has got the ‘Bus’ symbol for the city corporation election, the Prime Minister said recently she burned numerous buses and now seeking votes for the ‘Bus’ symbol.
She also mentioned that the blame for burning people, buses and vehicles largely goes to Tabith’s father Abdul Awal Mintoo.
Briefly describing various development activities of her government for the welfare of the farmers, she said Khaleda Zia had wanted to create problems for the farmers through imposing blockade and hartals, Hasina said the government now supplies fertilisers to the doorstep of farmers even during these destructive activities of the BNP-Jamaat alliance.
Describing the country’s extraordinary achievement in food production, Hasina said Bangladesh is now a self-reliant country in the world and all credit goes to the farmers.
“We’ve ensured food security for the people of the country, Inshallah if there is any food problem in any country of the world, Bangladesh can supply food grains to that country,” she said.
Presided over by BKL president Motahar Hossain Mollah, the programme was addressed, among others, by Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, AL agriculture affairs secretary Dr Abdur Razzak and general secretary Advocate Shamsul Haque Reza.
