BSS, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday came down heavily on Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for induction of war criminals and their children into the newly-formed committee of the party, saying that through this the BNP has “extremely cheated” with the nation.
“The BNP has constituted its central committee with those who were tried and executed as war criminals … the BNP has also inducted the children of 1971 culprits and through it, the party has ‘extremely cheated’ with the entire nation, the three million martyrs, and two lakh mother and sisters who lost their honour during the War of Liberation,” she said. The prime minister made the remarks while unveiling the cover of a book named “Sradya and Bhalobasai Smaraniya Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib” at her official Ganobhaban residence here yesterday afternoon. Bangladesh Awami Jubo League published the book on the occasion of 86th birth anniversary of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, the spouse of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The premier said the BNP should see its constitution, how many members it has in its committee and what committee it constituted. “What type of party BNP is which has no regulations and policy…seeing the committee, it seems that it is a gathering of vested persons, nothing else, what will they deliver to the nation,” she posed a question. The prime minister said it was General Zia who
first rehabilitated war criminals by putting them into power. “His family is also doing the same work,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said Ziaur Rahman destroyed the values of independence. He also stopped trial of the killers of Bangabandhu and rewarded them through posting in foreign missions.
The premier said after coming back to power after 21 years, the Awami League government tried the killers of Bangabandhu. “When anybody seeks justice to me, a question was raised to me that I had to wait for 35 years for the trial of the killers of my parents and brothers,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the BNP has no constitution, policy and goal. “It’s only aim is to go to power and commit plundering and corruption and embezzle orphans’ money,” she said.
Recalling the contribution of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib in establishing independent Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said the great lady had always been encouraging Bangabandhu in taking right decisions in every crucial moment of the nation. “Bangamata had very active role in all the movements and struggles of establishing rights of the Bangalees led by Bangabandhu including six-point movement and the Great War of Independence.
In this connection, she said, Bangabandhu had not faced any trouble on any issue as Bangamata herself had support to take his decisions. Sheikh Hasina said, Bangamata was very confident about the emergence of independent Bangladesh and added that the country would have not been liberated had Bangamata not been so strong minded. The Prime Minister said Fazilatun Nesa Mujib who used to live very simple life never got disheartened. “Rather, Bangamata with her wisdom and farsightedness used to give directives to party workers and leaders taking responsibility of the party in various crucial moments in absence of Bangabandhu,” Sheikh Hasina said. Sheikh Hasina thanked Bangladesh Awami Jubo League for taking initiative for publishing the book on Fazilatun Nesa Mujib. Jubo League Chairman Alhaj Omar Faruk Chowdhury and General Secretary Harun Ur Rashid also spoke at the function.
