The leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) on Monday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured them of taking initiative to meet their demands.
“We met the Prime Minister and placed our demands. She heard cordially our talks and responded positively. She asked us to return to the classes,” they said.
The FBUTA leaders came up with the remarks after a meeting with Prime Minister at her residence Ganabhaban on Monday evening.
The FBUTA will hold a press conference to express their views about the meeting today (Tuesday).
“We will call a executive meeting of FBUTA and will discuss the matter. The meeting will decide our next courses of movement,” said FBUTA President Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed.
Asking about the meeting at Ganabhaban Professor Farid said that the PM called us and we took part.
“We discussed about the teachers’ demands and some other matters. The PM gave us huge time and assured in this regard,” he said.
The FBUTA Secretary General Professor AFM Maksud Kamal told The New Nation on Monday that they succeeded to give their messages to the PM. They told her about their logical demands, he said.
“The PM was positive about our demands. We told him that we have been demonstrating for our dignity. She also realised our sprit of movement,” he said.
About the stoppage of their movement he said, “I cannot decide anything without the concern of the executive committee of the FBUTA. We will sit the other leaders of the platform and decide what we should do. We will also share it before the media on Tuesday through a press conference,” Professor Kamal said.
He also hoped that the Education Ministry would help them to meet their demands as the leaders of FBUTA on Sunday submitted a proposal to the Education Secretary at the Secretariat in which they demanded restoration of all the facilities, including Grade 1-3, of 7th National Pay Scale and to give the status of senior secretary to some teachers of Grade-1.
Public university teachers have been observing indefinite strike against the discrimination for the last one week.
