State minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said speedboats will not be allowed to ply without registration.
He said this on Thursday while addressing a meeting on administrative, financial and development activities of Shipping Department at ministry’s conference room in the city.
The state minister asked the department to observe ‘Registration Week’ for speedboat registration.
Shipping Secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Director General of Shipping Department Commodore Abu Jafor Md. Jalal Uddi, Shipping Master Md. Zakir Hossain, Principal Officer Captain Giasuddin Ahmed, among others, were present at meeting.
Khalid Mahmud gave directives to expedite the service and manpower recruitment especially surveyors at the department.
He asked to continue the work of adding ‘reversible gear’ with vessels to check accidents.
The meeting was informed that a project related to naval survey would be taken to find out the actual number of vessels in Bangladesh.
Later, the state minister presided over a virtual meeting of Bangladesh Marine Academy and National Maritime Institute.
