Independence, National Day observed: Pledges to build more prosperous country

The Independence and National Day-2018 was celebrated through various programmes paying rich tributes to the great sons of the soil in different districts on Monday amid much enthusiasm and festive mood. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Barisal Correspondent says : The Independence Day was observed on Monday in Barisal with exceptional programmes.
Barisal Reporters Unity, arranged day-long 13th exhibition about facts, photos, documents and books on liberation war at Bangabandhu Udyan and painting competition, tales from liberation war, reception to freedom fighters on Independence day at BRU premises on Sunday.
The exceptional programmes of tales from liberation war and exhibition drawn attentions of a huge number of spectators, specially the freedom fighters and young generation.
Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of the 26 major cultural organizations of the city, arranged the three-day programmes of discussion meetings, recitations, songs, dances, dramas and staging cultural performances at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar.
They also organised candle-light procession to pay tributes for the martyrs of mass killing on ‘black night’ of March 25, 1971.
Barisal Islamia College also arranged exhibition on facts and documents from on liberation war, cultural function, discussion in the college premises inaugurated by Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, principal of the college on Independence Day morning.
Wazirpur Samity arranged exhibition and discussion on liberation war at Borakota Degree College premises on Monday inaugurated by Nurul Alam, president of the samity and presided over by ANM Nesaruddin, principal of the college.
The other programmes to celebrate Independence Day 2018 in the city also included paying flower tributes at the alters of the martyrs in the mass killing ground (Baddhya Bhumi) and martyrs memorial board ( Shaheed Smriti Falok) from early hours to late morning of the Day.
The district administration, Muktijoddha Sangsad also arranged discussion, reception party of the freedom fighters, family members of the martyred on this occasion.
Gouripur (Mymensingh) Correspondent says: The Independence Day was observed at Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh district with much enthusiasm and fresh pledge to build more prosperous and developed country on March 26, 2018
 The beginning of the Independence Day started in the early morning with a 31-gun salutes. Upazila AL senior Vice President Dr. Helal Udden and Upazila AL General Secretary Bidhu Bhushan Das on behalf of Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, Ahammed Tayebur Rahman Hiron, Gouripur Upazila Chairman , Margina Akter ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila ; councilors of Gouripur Pourashava and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department placed floral wreaths on the monument Bijoy-71 at Bangabandhu Chattar of the upazila town.
People from all walks of life and activists of political, cultural and professional organisations, institutions and. clubs, such as Gouripur Pourashava, Gouripur Thana, Gouripur Sangbadik Okkya Forum, Gouripur Press Club, Gouripur Reporters Club, Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur Women College, Govt. Technical School and College, Gouripur R.K.Govt. High school, Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School, Chader Hat Agradut Niketon, Govt.Textile Vocational Institute also placed floral wreaths at the monument Bijoy-71 and paid homage to the war heroes.
 In the morning, colourful rallies were brought out by different organizations which paraded through the main roads of the town and joined Gouripur playground. Margina Akter ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila was a chief guest there and hoisted the national flag. Bangladesh Awami League , Gouripur Upazila Unit chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Independence Day. Besides, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party, National Awami Party (NAP) and other political parties and their associate bodies of this upazila drew up various programmes to mark the 47th Independence Day.
Narsingdi Correspondent says: The 48th Independence and National Day 2018 was celebrated here with due respect and befitting manner on Monday.
The day’s programmes began in the district heralded with a 31 gun salute early in the morning as mark of respect to the heroic struggle of the nation, Placing of floral wreaths at the monument in front of District Collecrrate office premises after sun rise in the morning.
Marking the day National flags were hoisted atop in all the public and private buildings. Deputy Commissioner of the district Sayeda Farhana, Kawnine and Police Super Saifullah Al Mamon BPM PPM hoisted National flags at local Moslehuddin Bhuiyan stadium and received salute from March-past by Police, Anser, School students and other organization.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Narsingdi district unit arranged competition of Art, Essay writing and recitation on Muktijuddah on the occasion.
A discussion meeting on Independence Day and reception the Freedom Fighters, the wounded fighters and the members of the martyrs was held at local Shilpakala Academy with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abudul Awal in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Of the district Sayeda Farhana, Kawnine addressed the function as chief guest while Chairman of Narsingdi Zilla Parishad Abdul Motin Bhuiyran addressed as special guest.
Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) Shaiful Islam, Deputy Director Local government Division Dr ATM Mohabubol karim, district Muktijuddah Commander Abdul Motaleb Pathen and Deputy Commandar Abdul Hoque Addressed in the function.
BSS from Faridpur says: The 48th Independence and National Day-2018 is being celebrated today amidst much enthusiasm and festivity in the district as elsewhere across the country.
The district administration, police administration, different political parties, educational institutions, NGOs, and other organizations as well as the common people are celebrating the day in a befitting manner.
The day’s programmes include hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational institutions and other establishments.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes on Police Lines Ground and placing of wreaths at the Swadhinota Smritistambha at Goalchamot and the mass graveyard adjacent to Sheikh Jamal stadium in the town.
Deputy Commissioner Ommey Salma Tanzia, Zila Parishad Chairman Lokman Hossain Mridha, Superintendent of Police Jakir Hossain, Faridpur District Awami League President Advocate Subol Saha, district Muktijoddha Commander Abul Fayez Shahnewaz, Govt. Among others, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Communist Party of Bangladesh and other originations placed wreaths at the Swadhinota Smritistambha.
Besides attractive displays, colorful rallies, march past of police, boys scout, girl guides, BNCC, students and children were held at Sheikh Jamal stadium.
Drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, charity football matches, cultural functions, prize distribution ceremonies and discussion meetings have been arranged on the occasion.
The freedom fighters, family members of martyred freedom fighters and relatives were accorded receptions at Sheikh Jamal Stadium.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The people of Rangpur celebrated the Independence and National Day-2018 on Monday amid huge festivity, fanfare and tight security measures through elaborate programmes.
The celebrations had unique impact this time following achieving the criteria of graduation of the country to a developing country from LDC status after recognition of the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu as the world’s documentary heritage by the UNESCO.
Thousands of cheering people participated in the celebrations with a fresh oath for building a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district administration, City Corporation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad (BMS), Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, other political parties, sociocultural, literary, professional and other organisations celebrated the day.
The celebrations began through heralding 31 gun salutes at Police Lines ground at one-minute past midnight and placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, Swadhinota Smritistambha `Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters after sunrise.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa first placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here at 6 am.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG)of Police for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Police Super Mizanur Rahman placed wreaths at Swadhinota Smritistambha `Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters in the city.
Leaders of AL and its associate bodies, BMS, BNP, Jatiya Party, JASOD, Gano Forum, Ganatantry Party, Workers Party, BSD, CPB and other political parties placed wreaths at these places.
Leaders of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity, Rangpur Chamber, Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Rangpur Shahittya Sangskritik Parishad, Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee, Shilpokola Academy, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi, NGOs and other organisations placed there wreaths.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes and local dailies, weeklies and online newspapers published special supplements glorifying the day.
With Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair, DIG Khondker Golam Faruk, Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, among others, addressed.
BSS from Rajshahi says: Paying rich tribute to the great sons of the soil the Independence and National Day-2018 was celebrated through daylong programmes in Rajshahi and its adjacent areas on Monday amid much enthusiasm and festive mood.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), divisional and district administrations, various political parties, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Rajshahi Medical College celebrated the day through the daylong programmes.
Paying rich tribute to the great sons of the soil, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP and Akter Jahan, MP, placed wreaths at Collectorate Shaheed Minar and commissioner of Rajshahi division Noor-Ur-Rahman, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and other officials followed them.
