Plastic waste creates health risk

Speakers at a workshop said that plastic pollution is responsible for disabled baby birth, autism and other complicated diseases. It has to be controlled right now.
Department of Environment and World Bank Group jointly organized a workshop on “Sustainable Management of Plastic to leverage circular economy and achieve SDG in Bangladesh” in a city hotel on Wednesday.
Md Shahab Uddin Ahmed, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was the chief guest of the programme while Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister and Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, secretary attended as special guests of the said ministry. Dr Sultan Ahmed, Director General, Department of Environment (DoE) was in the chair of the programme.  
Md Ziaul Haque, Director, DoE, Professor Doctor Kawser Ahmed, Director, International Center for Ocean Governance (ICOG) and Earth & Environment Science Faculty of Dhaka University and Doctor Ijaz Hossain, Professor, Chemical Engineering Department of BUET spoke at the technical session.
Md Shahab Uddin Ahmed said, “We have increased the use of plastic by reducing the use of jute. It is harming the nation. It has to be controlled now.”
Habibun Nahar said, “Plastic is considered a disaster worldwide. We should have attitude for not using Plastic in our household work. The harm is more than plastic benefits. Only social awareness can stop plastic use.”
Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury said, “80 million tons of plastic goes to the sea every year. If you go this way, the fisheries of the sea will be in danger. Therefore, it is imperative to control the plastic pollution by West management.”
Dr Sultan Ahmed said, “Plastic pollution is the responsible for the creation of disabled baby birth, autism and other complicated diseases.”
Professor Doctor Kawser Ahmed said, “700 marine species are threatened for plastic waste. Micro plastic entered into ecosystem. Yearly we incur loss amounting to 13 billion dollar on account of plastic pollution for hampering ecosystem. Plastic control is important for our survival.”
