Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday said the work on developing a plastic industrial estate is likely to be completed by June 2018 to ensure an environment-friendly plastic industry in the country.
“The government has taken an initiative to set up an industrial park, spreading over 50 acres, at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj district with a cost of Taka 133 crore,” he said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural session of the four-day-long 12th International Plastic Fair-2017 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
The Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers’ and Exporters’ Association (BPGMEA) and Chan Chao International Co, Ltd jointly organised the event.
The minister also underscored the need for setting up Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) to curb pollution for environment-friendly green industrialisation in the country.
“The Awami League led government does not support the kind of industrialisation that may render harm to the environment and the support won’t be extended also in future. Setting up of ETPs is essential to promote environment-friendly industrialisation,” he added.

Among others, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Awami League President’s adviser on private sector development Salman F Rahman, Executive Director (Overseas) of Chan Chan Int’l Co Ltd Judy Wang and BPGMEA president M Jahsim Uddin attended the inaugural session.
