State Minister for Water Resources Colonel (Retd) Zahid Farooq on Sunday said tree plantation programme will continue in all embankment projects.
“In cyclone Amphan, we observed in Satkhira that the areas where there was afforestation witnessed less riverbank erosion and less damage,” he said, speaking at a function at Pani Bhaban on Green Road in Dhaka on the occasion of Mujib Year.
Moreover, Farooq said, the Sundarbans served as a defense in Bangladesh against the cyclone Amphan.
About the importance of tree plantation, the state minister said, “The incidences of tidal surges and cyclones are increasing day by day due to climate change. There is no alternative to tree plantation to deal with natural disasters.”
