Kabir Bin Anwar, Senior secretary at the Ministry of Water Resources, said more trees should be planted to prevent river erosion and soil erosion. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had expressed her desire to plant 10 lakh trees across the country to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation “Mujib Year”.
Following in the footsteps of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Water Resources has undertaken a programme to plant 1 core trees across 17,000 km of dams across the country.
When these planted trees grow, they will protect the country and the world from the pollution of carbon dioxide along with maintaining the natural balance.
Habitat will play an important role in creating land including providing food for the birds.
Therefore, trees should be planted in vacant places as much as possible by the government as well as individual initiatives.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of a tree planting program in Naogaon to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independence.
The Naogaon Water Development Board organized the second phase of the tree planting programme on the embankment of the small river Jamuna at Laskarpur in Shutikalitala of the district headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Also present were Secretary’s wife Taufika Ahmed, AKM Shafiqul Alam, Chief Engineer, Rajshahi Division, Water Development Board, Mukhlesur Rahman, Supervising Engineer, Harun-ur-Rashid, Naogaon Deputy Commissioner, Arifuzzaman Khan, Executive Engineer, Naogaon WDB.
