Staff Reporter :Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) plans to enhance gas price from the next month. The commission already discussed the matter with the government, said an official. The BERC member pointed out that the discussion was obligatory, although the commission is an autonomous body.”Subsidy is directly connected with the gas price,” he said.State-owned Petrobangla has proposed 30 percent for industrial and commercial users whereas 122 percent for the households. It is because the government wants to give business entities a breathing space. After six years’ interval, the government is going to increase the price of gas for all categories of consumers, especially at household level, with a view to reducing wastage.Petrobangla officials said that they had been trying to hike gas price from 2009, but the BERC did not respond. On October 30, 2014 Petrobangla submitted a proposal to BERC for raising gas price. But that did not work.
