Plan to procure Tk 153.52 cr rescue equipments

The government has a plan to procure modern rescue equipments at a cost of Taka 153,52,38,000 for expediting and infusing dynamism into rescue operations in the aftermath of any disaster.
“We will procure rescue vehicle pickup, rechargeable search light, foldable stretcher, body bag, face/gas musk, rescue equipments for volunteers and search camera, etc at a cost of Taka 153.52 crore,” Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhdury Maya, Bir Bikram said.
Replying to a question from treasury bench member MA Malek of Dhaka-20 in the Jatiya Sangsad, he said the government has already procured Fork Lift, Pilot Transporter, Excavator, Wheel Dozer, Crane, Mobile Light Unit, etc along with modern equipments for carrying out immediate rescue and search campaign after earthquake at a cost of Taka 63 crore.
“The government has also a plan to train 62,000 urban search and rescue volunteers, of which 30,000 volunteers received training,” the minister said.
Preparation work for the separate Debris Management Plan and Debris Management Guidelines for Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet city, is underway to complete for removing debris after earthquake, he added.
Maya said, “We have undertaken activities to construct 220 multipurpose cyclone shelter centres at cyclone prone areas. We have 3,851 cyclone shelter centres.”
