The government is going to form Primary and Mass Education Board with a view to ensuring cent percent literacy and monitoring the primary education properly in the country.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar asked the officials concerned to prepare a draft in this regard.
The Ministry officials said, the Ministry has been thinking to form a separate board like the other education boards to run its activities smoothly.
The issue also was discussed in many meetings. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has already recommended the Ministry to form a new Board. It also suggested building a separate printing press like National Curriculum and Textbook Board’s printing press.
The committee asked to ensure quality primary education making the trainers and teachers skilled through trainings and research activities.
“It will be good if the ministry sends the pre-primary and primary books for 2017 academic session in time,” it said.
The Standing Committee also recommended implementing the primary education up to Class-VIII following the National Education Policy-2010.
Ali Azam Mukul MP, a member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Primary and Mass Education told The New Nation on Tuesday evening that the participation in primary education is increasing day by day. The Primary and Mass Education Ministry has to oversee all the functions of the primary education. But there is no board.
“The Standing Committee on Ministry of Primary and Mass Education feels that one or several boards are needed to accelerate the primary education. It is totally impossible to monitor all the activities including examination related jobs for the ministry only. That is why we recommended to form a board,” Mukul said.
There are 78,126 primary schools in Bangladesh, serving 17.6 million children. Primary education is free and compulsory for children aged 6-10 years.
