The government has planned new measures to prevent fake and adulterate medicine.
“The government has taken initiative to make a new law with provision of punishments for those involved in marketing fake, substandard and adulterate medicine,” Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Sunday said in Parliament replying a question from a ruling party MP. The Minister said that the draft of the law is now with the Law Ministry.
Replying to a question puts up by MP M Abdul Latif, the Minister also said that the drug administration and law enforcers are regularly conducting drives against selling date expired, unlicensed, illegal and fake medicine in Dhaka and different districts.
“If any pharmacy is found with fake and adulterate and substandard medicine, it must be punished,” he said.
He said that the government had formed ‘District Action Committee to prevent marketing fake medicine in every district.
The Deputy Commissioners had been made Presidents of those committees accommodating drug administration officials.
These committees are visiting pharmacies and markets for taking necessary steps across the country.
The Minister also said that the government would take further stetp to establish ‘Model Pharmacy’ in divisional cities and districts and upazilla towns.
In the mean time 175 pharmacies in Dhaka and other places got recommendation as ‘Model Pharmacy’.
Mohammad Nasim said, “People will get standard medicine in those pharmacies. They will get necessary advice also there.”
