PK Halder fled country just before immigration told

Proshanta Kumar Halder, popularly known as PK Halder who allegedly swindled billions from a number of banks and financial institutions, left the country on October 23 in 2019 through Benapole land port.
He left the country through the land port within 24 hours after issuing a travel ban notification on him. A high official of the immigration police confirmed the information to the Attorney General office, said Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik. The information would be submitted in the High Court Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim on March 15 in affidavit, added the state counsel.
Mr Manik also said, “The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sent a letter to the immigration police on October 22 in 2019 so that PK Halder could not leave the country. Immigration police received the letter at 4.30 pm on October 23. But before receiving the letter, PK Halder had left the Benapole port at 3.38 pm on the same day.”
Following a Suo Moto (voluntary move) ruling the HC on February 15 wanted to know about the immigration officials who were in charges at the concerned airports and land ports what was their role when Proshanta Kumar Halder left the country.
The court also wanted to know the role of the concerned investigation officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at that time.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and concerned bodies of the government were asked to comply with the order within March 15 this year.
Comply with the asking the immigration police provided the information to the attorney general office yesterday (Monday).
In a Suo Moto move, the HC on November 19 last year wanted to know from the respondents what steps have been taken to bring back PK Halder to the country and to arrest him.
Chairman of the ACC, secretary of the Home Ministry and deputy commissioner of Dhaka were asked to comply with the queries within 10 days.
The court also issued a rule over the issue asking the respondents to explain in 10 days as to why they should not be directed to take proper initiatives bring back PK Halder and to arrest him.
