The much awaited Dhaka North and South City Corporation Pioneer (Under-16) Football League will kick-off at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
However the mainstream tournament will kick-off from Saturday at five different grounds across the country.
The two mayors of Dhaka, Annisul Haque of Dhaka North and Sayeed Khokon of Dhaka South will be present at the inaugural ceremony.
A total of 71 clubs, 47 from the capital city and 24 from different districts will be taking part in the league that is dubbed as the biggest league of the world as per the number of clubs. The total numbers of players are 2270 who passed the age test. Initially 4750 players went through the age scrutiny.
The clubs are split into 10 groups with the top two qualifying for the Super League phase. There will be four groups in the Super League phase and the top two of each group will play in the quarterfinals.
The league is expected to conclude at the end of June with the top four finishers qualifying for the thirds division football league. All the participating teams will get appearance money of Tk 10,000 each.
In a press conference held at the BFF House on Thursday, Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir, the chairman of the BFF’s Pioneer League Committee, Amit Khan Shuvro, the deputy chairman, Dhaka South City Corporation official Afzalul Azam Reza and BFF general secretary Abu Naeem Shohag were present on the occasion.
