The students of Pioneer Dental College on Thursday observed a sit-in programme in front of the main gate of the college to press home their 10-point demands against the irregularities and corruption practised by the college administration.
Their sit-in programme lasted from 11am to 12.50pm. The students said that the death of Binisha Shah was a mystery. Nepali citizen Binisha Shah, was a 3rd year student of the college. She reportedly committed
suicide on Tuesday in the college hostel at Bhatara. The 10-point demand included proper investigations into the suicidal incident, stoppage of illegal money collections.
Students were protesting with the placards in hands, ‘who did call Binisha out during her examination?’ ‘Why was she out of examination hall for 15 minutes?’ ‘Why is the administration collecting fine from students threatening of the trap of fail?’
Her classmates claimed, Binisha committed suicide for excessive pressure from the authority. They demanded a proper investigation into the issue.
“The Pioneer Dental College administration is very much autocratic. They stopped all kinds of examinations, shut classes and forced us to leave the hostel,” said one of the students named Sohan.
He also said, “The authority always imposes various kinds of inhuman pressure on us. They are illegally collecting fines from us by setting up intentional fail trap. My 5-year course did not end in 7 years. I am still in third year. If I passed in viva examination, then they may make me fail in a written examination, and will impose fine of 40 to 70 thousand taka. Again, they will charge fees for an extra year. If we talk on this, they threat us. It is not tolerable anymore.”
One of the students alleged that Binisha committed suicide failing to bear such pressure.
A classmate of the Nepalese student Binisha said, “We will no longer tolerate those illegal activities. Now they have to answer. The suicide of Binishah is not usual, and she has been forced to commit suicide.”
