A few youths of the area had a picnic with a rare species of tortoise at Bauphal in Patuakhali. And when the bloody picture of the slaughtered tortoise spread through social media, the brawl started.
According to the news, a young man named Jugal hunted a rare species of tortoise from Kalaiyacanal in Bauphal. Unable to sell the tortoise, which weighed about 12 kg, some youths slaughtered the tortoise in Kalaiya launch ghat area on Sunday night and had a picnic.
At that time, a curious young man take a bloody picture of the slaughtered tortoise on his mobile phone and posting it on social media. However, due to legal complications, no one involved in slaughtering turtles and picnics agreed to speak to reporters.
Note that the procurement, sale and transportation of turtles is prohibited by the law of the Government of Bangladesh.
Abul Kalam Azad, the forest officer-in-charge of Baufal, said, “The tortoise is a wild animal, and those responsible for killing wild animals can be imprisoned with fines, we will investigate and take action against the culprits”
