Picnic bus goes wild in Feni; 26 killed, 200 hurt

At least 26 persons including eight in Feni were killed and over 200 injured in several horrific road crashes across the country on Thursday.
In Feni, eight persons were killed and 20 others injured when a picnic bus hits a tree beside Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Lemua of the district on the day.
The accident took place around 7am.
Five of the deceased were identified as Apu, 35, from Bikrampur, Iqbal, 38, from Mirpur, Ripon, 30, from Madaripur, Munna Khan, 30, from Narayanganj, and Shamim, 30 from Mirpur.
Seventeen of the injured had been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, said Feni Adhunik Sadar Hospital physician Nazmul Huq Shammi.
Feni’s Mohipal Highway Police Station In-Charge Md Shahjahan Khan confirmed the matter to media.
In Kishoreganj, at least four persons were killed and four others injured in separate road crashes of the district.
At Katiadi upazila, at least three persons were killed when a truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Thursday morning. Menwhile, a woman died in a tragic road crash in Bhairab upazila of the district.
Identity of the deceased could not be known instantly. All were passengers of the auto-rickshaw.

In Faridpur, at least three people, including a bus driver, were killed and 50 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Bhanga upazila on Thursday
Two of the deceased were identified as Raushan Fakir, 35, driver of the local bus and a resident of Nagarkanda Upazila of Faridpur and passenger Mira Kundu, 60 who from Rajbari Sadar.
Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station confirmed the news to the media.
In Sirajganj, at least three persons were killed and 50 more injured while three buses dashed one another together at Konabari in Kamarkhanda upazila of the district on Thursday.
The accident occurred on the West Road of Bangabandhu Bridge around 2:45 pm on Thursday.
“Police and fire service personnel, after being informed, undertook rescue operation,” Jahurul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station, told media. In Mymensinghy, two persons including a child were killed and five others injured following a collision between a bus and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Phulpur upazila on Thursday.
The accident took place on the Dhaka-Haluaghat upazila on Thursday noon.
 The deceased were identified as Jayed, 6, and Sirajul Islam, 45. The injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).
The killer bus was caught, but the driver fled the spot, Imarot Hossen Gazi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulpur Police Station, said.
In Natore, a college student was killed when a truck rammed him in Boraigram upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain,17, son of one Abdul Malek of Nowpara area.
In Tangail, a college student named Istiaque Ahamed, 17, was killed when a pick up van hit him in Sakhipur upazila of the district. Amir Hossain, Officer in Charge of Sakhipur Police Station confirmed the matter to the media.
In Gopalganj, a motorcyclist named Tohin Molla,30, was killed when a private car struck him in Kashiyani upazila of the district on Thursday.
In Bhola, a minor child named Parvez,8, was killed when a local mahindro rammed him in Elisa Barrister area on Thursday. In Cox’Bazar, an elderly person named Mohammad Kalu,62, was killed when a passenger bus pushed him in Shah Fakirbarza area of the district.
