A memorial plague with portraits of 13 Liberation War martyred journalists was unveiled at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in the city yesterday.
Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu formally unveiled the plaque on the historic Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Principal Information Officer (PIO) AKM Shamim Chowdhury, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Department of Film and Publication (DFP) Director General Mohammad Liaqat Ali Khan, PIB Director General Shah Alamgir, martyred journalist’s daughter Sami Kaiser and media personnel were present on the occasion, said an official release.
Speaking on the occasion, Hasanul Huq Inu paid profound respect to the memory of the martyred journalists and said the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators wanted to destroy Bangabandhu and people of this country, including women, intellectuals and journalists.
Flourishing of indigenous culture and mass media is essential to show respect to martyred journalists, he said and added that the nation would have to come out of the cloak of fundamentalism for this.
The memorial plaque installed at the gallery on first floor of PIB building contains the portraits of martyred journalists Sirajuddin Hossain, Shahidullah Kaiser, Khondaker Abu Taleb, Nizamuddin Ahmad, SA Mannan (Ladu Bhai), ANM Golam Mostafa, Syed Nazmul Huq, AKM Shahidullah (Shaheed Saber), Abul Bashar, Shibsadhan Chakrabartee, Chishtee Shah Helalur Rahman, Muhammad Akhtar and Selina Parveen.
