Physics Olympiad at Manarat College

A competetion namely Physics Olympiad, organized by the Department of Physics of Manarat Dhaka International School and College was held at the College Auditorium on Thursday. The theme of the Olympiad was ‘Exploring the World of Physics’. The college was decorated beautifully and it witnessed a festive mood to mark the occasion held first ever in the College.
The Physics screening test commenced at 8:30 am. The students from class Seven to A level participated in this Olympiad. Students took part in the competition with great enthusiasm.
The second part of the Olympiad set in motion from 12:00 pm. Physics oral quiz session and Prize distribution among the winners was the main attraction of this part. Dr Mir Akramuzzaman, Professor and former Head of the Department of Physics, Jahangirnagar University, was the chief guest at the event. Brig Gen (Retd.) Mehdi Hassan Pramanik, psc, Principal, Manarat Dhaka International School and College, was present as the Chairperson. Among others, ABM Zafor Ahmed, Secretary of Manarat Trust, Fatima Jemaima Rahman, Vice Principal of the College, Raihan Uddin, Coordinator of boys’ section, Ayesha Begum, Coordinator of girls’ section were also present. Among the senior faculties, Tahera Tasneem, SM Serajul Islam and Tahmina Yeasmeen attended the event.
MA Mohshin Quraishi, Convener of the Olympiad Organizing Committee conducted the programme.
In the prize giving ceremony Prof Dr Mir Akramuzzaman amused the students by telling various stories of Physics. He was pleased when the students could answer some of his questions correctly. He said, many problems can be solved by studying Physics. Therefore, physics is called ‘the king of all subjects and the subject of all kings’. He added that among the five greatest inventions, three were from Physics. One of the first Nobel Prize winners was a physicist. He also said that the advancement of physics stopped the Second World War.
At the Olympiad, the first prize awarded students in different groups were Nashita Zaman, Safia Qazi, Sumaia Islam, Asma Rahman, Shafkat Tashrif, Nabeel Chowdhury, Shabat Hossain Kaifee, and Syed Tazmilur Rahman.
