Physician held over ASP Anisul murder

Police on Tuesday arrested a physician over the death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) M Anisul Karim who was reportedly beaten to death by employees of a city hospital.
The arrestee is Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, a registrar of ‘Mind Aid’ hospital where the incident took place.
Earlier, 10 officials and employees of the hospital were arrested in connection with a case filed by victim’s father Foyez Uddin over the incident.
They are marketing manager Arif Mahmud Joy, coordinator Redwan Sabbir, chef Masud, pharmacist Tanif, and ward boys Jubayet Hossain, Tanvir Hasan, Sanjib Chowdhury, Asim Chandra Paul, Liton Ahmed and Saiful Islam Palash.
Anisul, who had been posted at Barishal Metropolitan Police as assistant commissioner (Traffic), was beaten to death by employees of the hospital in the capital’s Adabor area on November 9.
He had been suffering from mental illness following family feud, said his brother Rezaul Karim.
The police officer was taken to ‘Mind Aid’ hospital on November 9 for treatment.
It was seen in the CCTV footage that the ASP was taken to the aggressive patient management room by 6-7 employees of the hospital where they held him tightly on the floor.
Two of the employees were seen hitting him with their elbows and later his hands were tied at the back. At one stage, Anisul became senseless.
Getting no response from him, he was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases where doctors declared him brought dead.
