Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu recalled the great contribution of photojournalists to the genocide of 1971 and the mass upsurge of 1990.
He recalled on Thursday while addressing an international workshop of photojournalists at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in the city.
Inu differentiated between cameramen and photojournalists and said there was no scope to consider them same. “Photojournalists’ risk their lives to get the news across but cameramen necessarily do not do it”.
The minister said that it would be logical to introduce a “risk allowance” for photojournalists. “They work under extremely strenuous circumstances and the risks, they often face, makes it logical for them to have a “risk allowance”, he added.
The minister also greeted the visiting 10-member Nepalese delegation and hoped that their visit would be fruitful. “Such exchanges improve understanding and ways to negotiate situations,” he said.
