Phone network disturbance in Gulshan still on

Staff Reporter :Residents of some parts of capital city, including Gulshan 2 and part of Baridhara diplomatic zone, are now facing serious trouble for couple of days due to frequent disruption of cellular phone network, wimax services and all kinds of Internet services. Several residents have alleged that they experienced numerous call drops along with low frequency trouble for many days. Especially, those who wanted to connect their relatives or friends living abroad through I-phones had to spend huge time in getting connection. The mobile operators, however, said that they were trying to reduce spillover into other areas, which had caused since Saturday.A senior executive of a mobile phone operator yesterday night said that they have already released some areas at Gulshan 2 and diplomatic zone of Baridhara. “The mobile networks are available now in those areas,” he said.But the scenario was totally different. The people who have multiple mobile link have seen disruption either in one operator or in another. “I couldn’t connect with my relatives living abroad even after several attempts. It is very disturbing,” said Anis Ahmed. Another resident of Gulshan 2 Monirul Islam said that after crossing from Banani into Baridhara, he lost network connectivity for a couple of times.A BTRC officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he could not say when the network block would be lifted.All the country’s six mobile and three wimax operators blocked their networks since early Saturday following a government order aimed at disconnecting the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political office. In this regard, the telecom operators carried out the BTRC order and reduced their block-off zone from 60 Base Transceiver Stations down to 20. The base stations include 20 of Grameenphone, 15 of Robi and 18 of Banglalink.
