AFP, Washington :

American swim legend Michael Phelps has completed his probation for his second drink-driving violation ahead of the US Olympic trials that start this weekend and could launch him to the Rio Games.
The 18-time Olympic gold medal winner completed his probation Sunday after pleading guilty in 2014 to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A one-year prison sentence was suspended but Phelps received 18 months probation.
Phelps, who turns 31 on June 30, was suspended for six months by USA Swimming for the violation, missing the world championships in Russia as a result.
He spent 45 days in a rehabilitation facility.
Phelps says he has become a different person since overcoming drinking issues.
“I see a complete change, just living a freer, happier life,” Phelps recently said. “It’s a huge change. I don’t feel like I’m carrying weights anymore. I feel like whatever I’ve been holding inside of me, I’ve been able to get it out and start fresh. That’s a pretty incredible feeling.”
Phelps was first convicted of driving under the influence in 2004. He received 18 months probation.
