BSS, Dhaka :
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Thursday said government is working relentlessly to make the pharmaceutical industry country’s prime export sector.
“Many nations have expressed interest to import medicine made in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is now registered to export medicine to 90 countries of the world. Government is now working to provide policy and infrastructural support to the exporters to take this advantage,” he said.
Tofail said these while addressing the inauguration of a three-day “Asia Pharma Expo-2015”, organized by Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city.
Presided over by BAPI president Salman F Rahman, the function was addressed by Director General of Drug Administration, Major General Md Jahangir Hossain, Abdul Muktadir, among others.
“In line with the sixth five-year-plan, initiatives have been taken to produce new export items and find new market for those. Government is now working to increase the export of medicine, leather, ship and ICT goods alongside the readymade garment,” Tofail said.
While talking on pharmaceutical exporters’ demand for cash incentive, the minister said the government is considering the matter.
More than 450 companies from 30 countries are taking part in this year’s expo showcasing machineries and raw materials.
