Petrol pump owners and workers on Monday postponed their strike until December 15 following a meeting with Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
They postponed their strike as government assured them of looking into their 15-point charter of demands after holding a meeting with the high ups of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) at Kawranbazar in the city yesterday.
Sajjadur Karim Kabul, President of a faction of Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association, announced the decision 30 hours after they started an indefinite work abstention at all petrol pumps of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions.
“The discussion was a very fruitful. Among their demands, BPC will deal with two or three related issues. The rest of the matters will have to be discussed in the inter-ministerial meeting,” said Syed Mehdi Hasan, the BPC director (marketing).
He said that next decision will be taken on December 15 after an inter-ministerial meeting in this regard.
The leaders of Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners’ Association, Tank Lorry Owners’ Association on Saturday said that sale and transportation of fuel around 2,000 petrol pumps in Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Khulna divisions had been put to a halt for the strike.
Following the strike, transport owners and passengers of 30 districts had to face trouble as the fuel oil supply remained suspended due to the strike.
Earlier on November 26, the associations gave until November 30 to fulfill their 15 point demands that include payment of 7.5 per cent sales commission, introduction of accident insurance of Tk 5 lakh for tank lorry workers, and an end to police harassment.
