Staff Reporter :At least eight police personnel received severe injuries when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb targeting the police bus near Mattsya Bhaban under Ramna Police station in the city at 8:30 pm on Saturday. Five of the injured policemen were rushed to the Burn Unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH]. The rest were admitted in the general ward of the hospital. Of them, the condition of one police member was stated to be critical. He was taken to the Incentive Care Unit [ICU] of the hospital, said Mozammel Haque, Sub-Inspector and In-Charge of DMCH Police Outpost.The burn injured policemen were identified as SI Abul Kalam Azad, constables Morshed, Bosiar, Likhon and Shameem. Senior police officials including DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia visited the spot after the incident. The DMP Chief also visited DMCH to see the condition of police personnel.The officials of Bomb Disposal Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police [DMP] rushed to the spot after the blast. Officials said the police members were on duty at different city points during the blockade. After duty they were going to Rajarbagh Police Lines boarding the police bus. The bus took last passenger from Shahbagh spot and started moving towards its destination through Mattsya Bhaban.When the bus reached on the road in front of Ramna Chinese Restaurant, some miscreants hurled a patrol bomb targeting the vehicle. A fire caught in the front portion of the bus due to the explosion. As the driver lost the control of its wheel, the vehicle rammed the road-divider in tremendous speed.Witnesses said two motorcycle riders threw the bomb near Matsya Bhaban and fled away quickly.Some other police members were also injured when they tried to disembark the blazing bus in a hurry. “All of them were members of the Riot Police Unit of the police lines,” said Sarwar Alam, duty officer of the Ramna Police Station.DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said, “The blockaders of 20-party alliance have been hurling bombs in different parts of the city in the last few days. We will not spare anybody. The culprits will be brought to book.” Meanwhile, five other passenger buses were torched in different city parts yesterday evening. Of them, a passenger bus of Bikalpa Paribahan was torched by the blockaders in city’s Dhanmondi areaat about 7:30 pm. None was reportedly injured in the incident, witnesses said.In Mirpur, a passenger bus was torched while another bus also torched at Technical intersection under Darus Salam Police Station in the afternoon.On the other hand, another passenger bus was torched by the blockaders in city’s Jatrabari area a in the morning. In the latest incident, a bus was torched at Mohammadpur at 10;30 pm yesterday. In the latest incident, four passengers were burnt when a bus was torched at Bhetibadh area under Mohammadpur police station at 9:30 pm yesterday.The victims were identified as Nurzahan,30, Arman, 45, Billal, 26 and Abu Taher, 85.
